The 50/50 by 2030 Foundation congratulates Dr Richard Harris OAM and Dr Craig Challen SC OAM who were jointly awarded for Australian of the Year 2019 on Friday night in Canberra. The two men were honoured for their "heroic efforts as part of an international rescue mission to save 12 boys from flooded caves in Thailand". Heartfelt congratulations also to Dr Suzanne Packer AM, Senior Australian of the Year; Mr Danzal Baker, Young Australian of the Year; and Kate and Tick Everett for winning the Local Hero award.

Our very own Virginia Haussegger,  Director of the 50/50 by 2030 Foundation was one of the eight nominees for the prestigious award. Here, she reflects on the great honor of being named the ACT Australian of the Year 2019 for her advocacy for women's rights and gender equality, the work of the Foundation, and the national conversation around gender equality more broadly.
